The Problem

Many small business owners either don’t have time or the skillset to design marketing materials. It’s vital to their business success to be able to promote their business with professional collateral. To help with this Vistaprint offers design services.

My Role

I was responsible for leading a journey mapping session with key stakeholders, sketches, wireframes and high fidelity prototypes.

Research

Working with an analyst I was able to obtain a range of customers who had used our design services in the past three months. This was intentional so the experience would be fresh in the participants' mind. With my partner, a business owner, we made phone calls to customers. We alternated leading the conversation and documenting findings.

At the same time I performed a competitive analysis rating the level of help and services offered from both direct competitors and alternate industries to get a better idea of the current offerings in the market. I found that few offered exactly what we were looking to roll out.

Journey Mapping

Using realtimeboard.net I was able to lead a journey mapping session with a remote team. The persona was a first time user that isn't tech savvy with the user goal to create a design they're proud of. Together we mapped the user journey and then added what they were doing, thinking and feeling at each step. This helped to identify pain points and areas of opportunity.

User Testing

I created sketches with a few proposed solutions that we tested on usertesting.com to get some quick and inexpensive feedback. The fidelity of the work invited users to brainstorm with us and and provide more comprehensive feedback than they may have with polished finish looking work.

RESULTS

The design request functionality was added to studio based on testing. Users are now able to ask for any changes to their product at any point in their design process.
